Following news that Will Ferrell would reteam with John C. Reilly, along with their Step Brothersand Talladega Nights director Adam MckKay, in the comedy Border Guards, the funnyman has yet another new project for his future slate. Deadline reports Tom Rothman's revival of TriStar has just picked up The Yank, a comedy pitch meant to be crafted as a starring vehicle for Ferrell. Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink will script the film with his writing partner Jeff Morris and The Other Guys production company Mosaic is producing along with Ferrell's Gary Sanchez Productions banner. So what's the story?
The film would feature Ferrell as a mild mannered insurance courier who gets caught up in a conspiracy to steal the Crown Jewels in London. Seems like a bit of a weak storyline, especially afterMuppets Most Wanted just used the same heist objective, but maybe the pitch was just too funny to pass up. Ferrell can make nearly anything funny, so I have faith just based on just his interest in the project. Of course, we still have to see who will end up directing the comedy and just how soon it would get off the ground. This could always end up being one of those projects that Ferrell gets attached to but then falls away from.
