Jessica Chastain Rumored for Female Lead in 'Mission: Impossible 5'

Jessica Chastain
After landing the role of Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik's Blonde, it looks like Jessica Chastain might head into blockbuster action territory after that. If a rumor from Schmoes Knowis accurate (and they've been on the money lately with certain reports), then Chastain is currently being sought for the female lead in Mission: Impossible 5 the next sequel of the Tom Cruise led action franchise at Paramount Pictures which is already slated for release on Christmas Day next year. That likely means that Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol female lead Paula Patton won't be back, but the series has never reused any females from the previous films, making Ethan Hunt a less sexually driven James Bond of sorts.
Chastain previously almost worked with Cruise on Oblivion before she was replaced with Olga Kurylenko, so it sounds like the two are eager to work together. We'll likely get more official news sooner than later since the sequel would need to begin production sometime this year in order to meet the late 2015 release date. By comparison, Star Wars: Episode VII is slated for release the week before (that means we'll get two Bad Robot films in a row), and that film begins production next month. There's likely less visual effects involved, but still, they're both big movies that require considerable time in post-production. Jack Reacher director Christopher McQuarrie will be at the helm, so stay tuned to see if this rumor turns out to be true.
