Not too long ago, we learned that Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman would reunite yet again for the period drama Genius. The film focuses on literary editor Max Perkins, who worked with the likes of Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald, with our story focusing on his relationship with author Thomas Wolfe. Originally, the latter author was meant to be played by Michael Fassbender, but Screen Daily reports Jude Law will be replacing the actor in the film that is said to depict Perkins as a man who "served these authors not only as editor extraordinaire but also as critic, psychoanalyst, father-confessor, and devoted friend."
Michael Grandage, a theater director, is making his feature film debut with the film that has a script from Hugo writer John Logan, adapted from Perkins' biography. Switching out Fassbender for Law isn't a downgrade at all, and while we're not sure why the switch was necessary Fassbender was first linked to the project back in 2012, and schedules get jockeyed around a lot in Hollywood, so it's not all that surprising of a move. With a cast like this, there's a good chance this could become an Oscar contender, but with a theater director behind the camera, that's not necessarily a guarantee. Production begins in October.
