Just before Thanksgiving last year, we learned that Platinum Dunes decided to try out another reboot of Friday the 13th with Paramount Pictures already staking out a release date on March 13th, 2015, which just so happens to be a Friday. Now the project is rounding up some talent to make it happen, and it gives us some semblance of hope for a horror film that already had a reboot as recent as 2009. Apparently it wasn't good enough to just keep the franchise going from there, and now The Wrap reports David Bruckner, who directed the segment "Amateur Night" in the horror anthology V/H/S is being eyed to direct the new film.
If you haven't checked out V/H/S, it's available to stream on Netflix Instant right now, and it's definitely worth your time. Bruckner's segment focused on some college kids who use some camera eyeglasses as a way to record their encounters with drunken girls that they lure back to their hotel room. But the trio of friends finds themselves in over their head when the girl they bring home has more than a few odd quirks, including a penetrating stare, and more secrets lurking behind her large eyes. It's pretty freaky.
While we're not necessarily psyched about yet another horror franchise reboot, maybe Bruckner can bring some style to the proceedings. There's also been rumblings that a Friday the 13th reboot would take the found footage approach, so maybe that's why Bruckner has been hired. Either way, it's not clear just how the mythology of the extensive Friday the 13th legacy and hockey-masked killer Jason Vorhees will be used this time, but likely a bunch of teens will die from the end of his machete, and that's all that matters. Well?
