Following the announcement of all the hopefully great films that will premiere at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival next month, some of the films are already cranking up the hype machine. One such film is The Captive, a new drama from director Atom Egoyan (Chloe, The Devil's Knot) that stars Ryan Reynolds as a father whose child goes missing when he leaves her alone in his truck for a few minutes while picking up some pie at a local diner. But this isn't your average kidnapping thriller, as there seems to be much more behind the disappearance than meets the eye. This looks like a great thriller and Reynolds needs a good one.
The Captive is directed by Atom Egoyan (Chloe, The Devil's Knot), who also co-wrote the script with David Fraser. The film follows Matthew and Tina (Ryan Reynolds and Mireille Enos), a couple torn apart by the circumstances behind the mysterious disappearance of their daughter, who seems to be alive in captivity eight years later with her unknown location being broadcast online, leaving official perplexed as they attempt to find her. Scott Speedman, Rosario Dawson, Kevin Durand, Alexia Fast and Bruce Greenwood also star in the film which premieres at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, but has no release date. Interested?
