Doug Liman Set to Direct Children's Sci-Fi 'Railhead' for Warner Bros.

Railhead
This summer we'll see The Bourne Identity director Doug Liman's sci-fi action flick Edge of Tomorrow hit theaters, but the filmmaker has a whole slew of projects in his future. The latest directing gig for Liman seems to be the video game adaptation of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell starring Tom Hardy, and now THR has word that the director will head into children's sci-fi territory for a new project called Railhead set up at Warner Bros. Based on Philip Reeve's upcoming book of the same name, the book is set in a futuristic world where trains run through space by way of portals. Sounds like there's the potential for a space western here.
The story follows a petty thief hired to steal an object that happens to be more important than he was led to believe. There seems to be flares of Indiana Jones in space as well, but we won't know more about the story until the book hits shelves in the fall of 2015. At the very least we know there are other characters besides humans, so this sounds like it could be a fun sci-fi adventure. However, it's not clear when this project might get off the ground. After all, Liman has been linked to anadaptation of the sci-fi novel The Tourist and also a time traveling romantic comedy called Time and Again. Stay tuned to see what sticks.
