Universal Marriage and Cultural Marriage-

Universal Marriage is marriage between an adult man and an adult woman irrespective of their difference in age, culture, values or pre-marital position like divorced or widowed. But cultural marriage is based on some cultural specifications based on values, norms, age and pre-marital position.

For example, Omor Laden who was 26 married a British woman of 56 and formed a family. It is example of universal marriage. It is marriage only in legal and to some extent metropolitan senses. But this cannot be accepted in Indian society, Japanese society and societies in middle east and south east Asian countries. Indian family is cultural family or value family. Certain cultural values and norms are parts of it.

For example, middle aged Indian women or Hindu widows do not remarry and do sacrifice for the sake of family, as monks sacrifice family for the sake of religion. It is also called Altruism.

That is why people want homely bride for marriage. The very term homely carries a meaning of bearing certain values of our Indian family. Now under globalisation these values are undergoing decay.
