After taking on an adaptation of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, director Tomas Alfredson has found his next thriller, and it's a project left behind by Martin Scorsese. Now Variety has word that Alfredson, who also directed the adaptation of Let the Right One In, will be in the director's chair forThe Snowman, based on Jo Nesbo's crime novel of the same name. Alfredson will also be working on the script with Soren Sveistrup and will produce the film by way of his Another Park Film banner along with Working Title Films. Scorsese toyed with the project for a few years, but now that he's taken on Silence instead, a new director was needed.
For those who aren't familiar with the Swedish crime novel, it's actually the seventh in a series following recurring detective Harry Hole as he looks into gruesome killings in Oslo, Norway. The case in question concerns a missing woman whose pink scarf is found wrapped around an ominous-looking snowman, and just might be the work of a serial killer. Though Alfredson inherited the directing gig from Scorsese, the Hugo and Wolf of Wall Street director is still executive producing alongside Nesbo. Working Title was hoping to kickstart a franchise following Harry Hole, much likeAlex Cross, but there's no guarantee.
