Zack Snyder Now Set to Direct 'Justice League' After 'Man of Steel 2'

Justice League
For anyone holding out for Warner Bros. to get Ben Affleck to direct Justice League now that he's all set to play the studio's new Batman in the gestating sequel to last summer's Man of Steel, we have some potentially disappointing news. The Wall Street Journal officially revealed that Man of Steel and Batman vs. Superman director Zack Snyder will be behind the camera, confirming the rumor that first surfaced just over a year ago, and sticking with the DC Comics universe building that we've been hearing about endlessly. President of production at Warner Bros. Pictures, Greg Silverman, announced the news today saying, "It will be a further expansion of this universe.Superman vs Batman will lead into Justice League.”
The studio isn't setting a release date yet, but the paper notes that the movie isn't likely to hit theaters until 2018 at the earliest. After all, Batman vs. Superman isn't slated to arrive until May of 2016 now (against Marvel's Captain America 3 if the calendar remains unchanged), so that makes perfect sense. However, there are rumblings that the sequels will be shot back-to-back, andJustice League could arrive as early as 2017 with an announcement at Comic-Con this summer. Maybe that's the real reason Warner Bros. decided to push back the Man of Steel 2 release date to 2016.
Either way, we've all assumed that the next DC Entertainment sequel would be leading to a Justice League movie, it was just a matter of when. After all, Gal Gadot is already slated to appear as Wonder Woman with Batman and Superman in the gestating Man of Steel sequel, and the character Cyborg just entered the mix last week too. Does this mean we'll get cameos from The Flash, Green Lantern or Aquaman as well? That remains to be seen since the announcement is just now official, so we've got plenty of time to figure that out down the road. Happy to have Zack Snyder directing Justice League?
