'Macbeth' Helmer & Michael Fassbender Reunite on 'Assassin's Creed'

Michael Fassbender / Assassin's Creed
Not too long ago, the first images from Justin Kurzel's adaptation of the classic Shakespeare playMacbeth surfaced with a glimpse at Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard in the film. Now a bit of a reunion from the lower profile drama is in the works, and on a much bigger project.Deadline has word that Kurzel is now in talks with New Regency and Ubisoft to direct their adaptation of the popular video game Assassin's Creed, which already has Fassbender attached to lead the film. The companies must like what Kurzel and Fassbender (who is also producing the video game flick) are churning out for The Weinstein Company film.
It's not a done deal yet, but Fassbender and Kurzel are eager to get started on the film, which is already slated for release on August 7th, 2015. There's plenty of time for the project to get started, and while video game movies always force us to be cautiously optimistic, this pairing seems extremely promising. For those who haven't played the game, the first installment was set in 1191 AD during The Third Crusade and followed an assassin named Altair, a hooded killer tasked with stopping the conflict and shaping future history. Other installments take place in various historical times, so it's not clear where the film will be set. We hope Fassbender and Kurzel can break the video game movie curse that plagues Hollywood.
